LG Dryer nF Error Code

No gas flame detected on gas models

What this error means

nF is No Flame on LG gas dryers. The igniter glowed or the gas valve opened but the flame sensor never detected combustion within the timeout—so heat stops for safety.

How NF is detected

LG dryer models lock the door or lid before energizing fill, heat, or high-speed spin. NF means the latch switch never sent a "locked" signal to the main control, or the lock motor did not complete its travel. On LG DLG3501W, LG DLG7151W, and similar variants, clothing caught in the gasket, a misaligned strike, or a failed latch assembly are the most common mechanical causes—not the board itself.

Inspect the door gasket perimeter and strike alignment before replacing the latch. Household gas valve closed behind the dryer is reported frequently on this code. After correcting mechanical issues, confirm the gas shutoff is fully open and other gas appliances work. If the latch clicks but NF persists, the door lock switch or wiring harness to the control board likely needs testing with a multimeter.

Do not force the door open during an active cycle; wait for the lock to release when the board de-energizes the lock motor—usually two to three minutes after canceling power on most LG units.

Common causes

  • Household gas valve closed behind the dryer
  • Clogged burner orifice from lint drawn into the gas assembly
  • Weak igniter not reaching ignition temperature
  • Failed flame sensor rod coated with white oxidation

Step-by-step fixes

  1. 1Confirm the gas shutoff is fully open and other gas appliances work
  2. 2Smell for gas—if present, shut off supply and leave the room before calling the utility
  3. 3Clean the lint filter and vent—poor airflow can cause flame rollout trips
  4. 4Listen for the igniter click-then-glow sequence on a timed high heat cycle

When to call a technician

Gas valve, igniter, and flame sensor work must be done by a qualified technician—never bypass flame proving.

Affected models

  • LG DLG3501W
  • LG DLG7151W
  • LG DLGX4001W

Prevention & maintenance

  • Wipe the door gasket weekly and avoid overloading items against the seal—NF often starts as a slow leak or latch misalignment.
  • Record when NF appears in the cycle and whether it clears after a 60-second power reset on your LG dryer—that detail speeds diagnosis if you call service.
  • Keep the model and serial number from the rating plate when ordering parts for NF; LG uses multiple revisions with different harness lengths and board firmware.
  • Photograph wiring connector orientation before disconnecting any component while troubleshooting NF; reversed plugs on pumps and valves cause immediate repeat faults.
