Samsung Washing Machine UB Error Code

Unbalanced load—spin aborted because drum vibration exceeded safe limits

What this error means

Samsung UB means Unbalanced—not UE, which some forums confuse with LG's imbalance code. During the spin ramp, the MEMS vibration sensor on the tub or cabinet reads excessive oscillation when laundry clumps on one side of the drum. The inverter reduces RPM and displays UB rather than allow the cabinet to walk or strike the enclosure. On WF45T6000AW and WF45R6300AW front loaders, UB is usually load distribution or leveling; repeated UB on balanced loads points to worn shock absorbers or suspension springs inside the tub assembly.

How UB is detected

Samsung WF45 series washers run a redistribution slow-spin before high-speed extract. If weight stays concentrated—common with heavy denim, one thick comforter, or waterlogged towels—the sensor trips UB typically between 400–800 RPM depending on firmware. Opening the door and manually spreading items 180° around the drum perimeter before restarting Spin Only often clears UB without any parts.

Leveling is non-optional after delivery or floor changes. Place a bubble level on the flat top panel; adjust front leveling legs clockwise to lower or counterclockwise to raise until the bubble centers within the inner ring. Tighten the jam nuts on the leg threads so vibration does not walk the feet out of adjustment—loose jam nuts are a top cause of UB on every load after the first month.

Samsung provides a calibration routine on many WF45 models: with power on, press and hold Temp and Delay End simultaneously for three seconds until CB or CAL displays, then press Start. Calibration relearns weight sensor baselines after suspension service or if UB appeared after moving the washer. Run calibration on an empty drum only.

When UB occurs on mixed full loads that look evenly distributed, inspect rear suspension shocks for oil leakage or broken pins, and verify all four shipping bolts with plastic spacers were removed from the rear panel—leaving even one transit bolt guarantees UB at any speed. Related DC code appears earlier in the slow-redistribution phase; UB is the high-speed abort. Persistent UB after shocks replacement may require tub spider inspection—a service-level repair.

Common causes

  • Single heavy item or clumped towels concentrated on one drum wall during spin ramp
  • Washer not level or front jam nuts loose allowing cabinet tilt during extract
  • Shipping transit bolts still installed in rear panel—four bolts on WF45 delivery
  • Worn shock absorbers leaking oil or with broken rod ends on front-load tub support
  • Weak suspension springs on older Samsung platforms allowing tub contact with cabinet
  • Floor surface too flexible (upper-floor laundry closet) amplifying vibration readings
  • Failed vibration sensor or harness—rare; UB on empty drum suggests this path

Step-by-step fixes

  1. 1Pause cycle when UB appears; wait for door lock release; open door and redistribute items evenly around full drum circumference.
  2. 2Add one or two similar-weight items when washing a lone heavy piece such as a rug or comforter.
  3. 3Place bubble level on top; adjust front legs until centered; tighten leg jam nuts clockwise against the cabinet base.
  4. 4Inspect rear panel for four shipping bolts with colored spacers; remove any found with a socket wrench and store bolts for future moves.
  5. 5Run Spin Only at 800 RPM on an empty drum—if UB appears empty, run calibration: hold Temp + Delay End three seconds until CB, press Start.
  6. 6If UB repeats on balanced full loads, unplug washer, remove rear panel, inspect shock absorbers for oil streaks; replace shock kit if dampers are wet.
  7. 7Confirm floor is solid; add anti-vibration pad under front feet if washer sits on tile over flexible subfloor in upper-level installs.

When to call a technician

Call service when UB happens on every full load after leveling, transit bolt check, calibration, and redistribution. Internal suspension, tub spider crack, or bearing wear require tub assembly service. Provide WF45T6000AW model from the door label for correct shock absorber revision—Samsung uses multiple damper lengths by serial range.

Prevention & maintenance

  • Mix heavy and light items in the same load—never spin one waterlogged towel alone on WF45 platforms.
  • Run Samsung calibration after any move or suspension part replacement before loading laundry.
  • Remove all four rear transit bolts after every delivery or relocation—document bolt removal on install checklist.
