Water fill too slow or interrupted before the tub reaches target level
What this error means
Samsung 4C is a fill-rate fault in the same diagnostic family as 4E (Not Filling). After the main control energizes the dual inlet valve solenoids, the pressure switch or flow sensor must confirm rising water within roughly 60 seconds on most WF45 and WF50 front-load platforms. 4C differs from 4E in that some water may enter the drum—a trickle, a single dead solenoid side, or a mid-fill pressure drop can trigger 4C while the door glass still shows a shallow puddle. The washer aborts before heat or agitation to protect the heating element and motor from running dry.
How 4C is detected
On Samsung WF45T6000AW, WF45R6300AW, and WF50R8500AV front-load washers, the fill sequence opens hot and cold paths according to the selected temperature. The control monitors a pressure dome hose connected to an air switch on the upper rear panel. If household pressure sags below usable levels, if one coil in the DC62-00214M/L/N dual inlet valve fails, or if sediment restricts only the hot-side mesh screen, the tub never reaches the programmed level in time and 4C displays—often flashing on the LED ring or the central display depending on firmware revision.
A frequently missed 4C cause is siphon during fill: the drain hose inserted more than 8 inches into a standpipe can pull water out as fast as the inlet valve adds it, so the pressure switch never sees a stable rise. Samsung specifies 6–8 inches of drain hose insert depth, not the full 18 inches some installers use for overflow protection. Flood Safe or auto-shutoff supply hoses are another common trigger—their internal valves restrict flow enough that Samsung's fill timer expires even when kitchen faucets have normal pressure.
When 4C appears on warm or hot cycles only, swap the hot and cold hoses at the wall without crossing them at the washer. If the code follows the line that moved, the restriction is upstream (screen, valve, or supply) on that side. When 4C appears on cold-only cycles, inspect the cold inlet port mesh and the cold solenoid on the valve body. Multimeter testing of each solenoid coil typically reads 500–1,500 Ω; an open reading confirms replacement of the DC62-00214 series valve assembly rather than board replacement.
After correcting plumbing, run an empty Cotton cycle with both wall valves fully open and no other fixtures on the same branch. Watch the fill through the door glass for the first 90 seconds. If 4C clears, document hose routing and screen cleaning in your maintenance log. Persistent 4C with strong flow at both disconnected hose ends points to a failed pressure switch air dome hose, a cracked pressure hose, or a main PCB fill relay—those require service-level testing at the pressure switch connector behind the top console.

- Hot or cold supply wall valves closed, partially open, or restricted by a Flood Safe / auto-shutoff hose
- Mesh strainer screens inside the washer-side inlet ports clogged with rust or sand, reducing flow on one temperature side only
- One solenoid coil on the DC62-00214M/L/N dual inlet valve open or shorted while the opposite side still fills slowly
- Drain hose inserted too deep into the standpipe (beyond 6–8 inches), causing siphon that prevents stable fill level
- Household water pressure below roughly 20 psi during peak use when dishwasher or showers run on the same branch
- Kinked or pinched inlet hoses trapped between the washer and wall, especially on stacked laundry installations
- Pressure switch air hose disconnected, cracked, or clogged at the tub dome fitting so the control never sees fill progress
Step-by-step fixes
- 1Turn both hot and cold wall shutoffs fully counterclockwise; run a sink on the same branch for 30 seconds to confirm steady pressure before starting the washer.
- 2Disconnect inlet hoses at the washer rear; flush debris from the internal mesh screens into a bucket using a soft brush, then reconnect with new washers if the old ones are crushed.
- 3Measure drain standpipe insert depth: mark the hose at 6–8 inches from the standpipe rim, reseat the hose, and confirm the top of the hose loop remains above the tub water line.
- 4Remove Flood Safe or restrictive supply hoses temporarily and substitute standard braided hoses for one test cycle; if 4C clears, replace with high-flow rated hoses or relocate shutoff protection upstream.
- 5Swap hot and cold hoses at the wall only (keep washer connections correct); rerun a Warm fill. If 4C follows the swapped line, clean that side's screen or replace the inlet valve.
- 6Pull the top panel (two rear screws on most WF45 models), locate the pressure switch and clear plastic hose on the tub dome; reseat both ends and blow gently through the hose to verify it is not blocked.
- 7If 4C persists after plumbing checks, unplug the washer, access the rear inlet valve, and ohm each solenoid coil; replace the DC62-00214M/L/N assembly when one coil reads open.
When to call a technician
Call a technician when both hose ends show strong flow with screens clean, standpipe depth is correct, and 4C still appears within the first minute of fill on an empty Cotton cycle. That pattern usually indicates a failed dual inlet valve, pressure switch, or main PCB fill circuit—not a homeowner plumbing issue.
