F17 appears on models with a temperature probe jack. The ERC detected an open or short in the external meat probe circuit during convection roast or probe bake.
How F17 is detected
Maytag oven models lock the door or lid before energizing fill, heat, or high-speed spin. F17 means the latch switch never sent a "locked" signal to the main control, or the lock motor did not complete its travel. On Maytag MEW7630FZ, Maytag MER8800FZ, and similar variants, clothing caught in the gasket, a misaligned strike, or a failed latch assembly are the most common mechanical causes—not the board itself.
