LG Dryer AE Error Code
Auto shutoff from internal fault
What this error means
AE is an Auto Error shutoff—the control board stopped operation to protect components, often following overheating, repeated sensor faults, or an internal self-test failure.
How AE is detected
Heating faults such as AE appear when the LG dryer control energizes the bake element, broil element, gas valve, or drying heater but does not detect expected temperature rise within the monitoring window. On LG DLEX9000V, LG DLHC5502W, and similar variants, open heating elements, failed igniters on gas dryers and ranges, or welded heater relays on the control board produce similar symptoms.
Severe vent restriction causing repeated high-limit trips should be ruled out first. clear the full vent path if any d80/d90 code appeared recently. On electric ovens and dryers, test element continuity when cool; on gas appliances verify the ignitor glows for at least 15 seconds before the valve opens. Repeated AE after confirming heat at the exhaust or oven cavity indicates a sensor or board issue rather than a simple element replacement.
Common causes
- Severe vent restriction causing repeated high-limit trips
- Moisture sensor short from fabric softener sheet residue
- Main board detecting abnormal current draw
- Condenser or heat-pump coil iced on ventless models
Step-by-step fixes
- 1Clear the full vent path if any D80/D90 code appeared recently
- 2Clean moisture sensor bars inside the drum with rubbing alcohol
- 3Unplug for ten minutes to reset protective logic
- 4On heat-pump models, ensure room temperature is within the manual's operating range
When to call a technician
AE that returns on the first cycle after vent cleaning needs board or heat-pump system diagnosis.
Affected models
- LG DLEX9000V
- LG DLHC5502W
- LG DLE7150W
Prevention & maintenance
- Preheat the oven only as directed and avoid foil lining the bottom—blocked airflow causes heat faults related to AE.
- Record when AE appears in the cycle and whether it clears after a 60-second power reset on your LG dryer—that detail speeds diagnosis if you call service.
- Keep the model and serial number from the rating plate when ordering parts for AE; LG uses multiple revisions with different harness lengths and board firmware.
- Photograph wiring connector orientation before disconnecting any component while troubleshooting AE; reversed plugs on pumps and valves cause immediate repeat faults.
