Kenmore Dishwasher Error Codes
15 error codes with causes and fixes
- F2Leak detected in base panF2 on Whirlpool-built Kenmore dishwashers (665.xxxxx) means water reached the base pan and tripped the anti-flood float switch. The control stops filling and may run the drain pump continuously.
- F3Water temperature sensor faultF3 means the tub water thermistor is reading abnormally—open or shorted. Kenmore 665 dishwashers use this NTC near the heating element to regulate wash and dry temperatures.
- F4Wash motor not runningF4 means the main wash motor did not start or did not reach expected speed. Spray arms will not rotate and dishes stay dirty after the wash phase times out.
- F5Turbidity sensor faultF5 means the turbidity or soil sensor in the sump reported an invalid reading. Auto-wash cycles on newer Kenmore 665 models use this sensor to adjust cycle length based on water clarity.
- F6Water inlet valve not fillingF6 means the dishwasher did not fill with water within the allowed time. The inlet valve never opened or household pressure was too low for the fill step.
- F7Flow meter not detecting waterF7 means the flow meter turbine did not pulse when the inlet valve opened. The control uses this sensor to verify water is actually entering the tub—not just that the valve coil energized.
- F8Drain pump not removing waterF8 means the drain pump ran but water remained in the tub after the drain timeout. Standing water at the end of a cycle or cancel/drain triggers this code on Kenmore 665 dishwashers.
- F9Diverter motor not switching sprayF9 means the diverter motor that routes water between upper and lower spray arms did not reach the commanded position. One rack may get no spray during the affected portion of the cycle.
- F10Vent fan not operatingF10 means the drying vent fan did not start when commanded. Kenmore dishwashers with a vent fan use it to pull moist air out during the dry phase—F10 leaves dishes wet and may trip related heat faults.
- F11Touchpad cannot talk to main controlF11 means the touchpad user interface lost communication with the main control board inside the door. The display may freeze or alternate between F11 and blank segments.
- F12Detergent dispenser not openingF12 means the detergent dispenser did not open during the wash step. Dishes may come out greasy when the main wash detergent never entered the tub.
- F13Main control EEPROM errorF13 means the main electronic control failed its EEPROM memory verification. Cycle programs cannot load reliably and the dishwasher may not start any cycle.
- F14Touchpad membrane failureF14 means the touchpad membrane or button panel failed self-test. Button presses may not register or the panel may report multiple keys at once.
- F15Heating element circuit faultF15 means the heating element circuit did not draw expected current during heat step. Wash water stays cold and the dry phase fails on Kenmore 665 dishwashers.
- F16Door switch not closedF16 means the door switch circuit reads open when the control expects the door to be latched. The dishwasher will not fill or run wash steps until the switch confirms closure.
